Spanish Moss

My father painted this, and a number that were similar, in 1962. They were all experiments. Inspired by the massive oak trees in Audubon Park in New Orleans, Dad collected Spanish moss from the trees, dipped it in ink (or was it paint?), and dabbed the painting to create the foilage and a unique atmosphere. He also used a razor blade to create edges, then using it somewhat as a brush. I recall handling the moss and dipping it in a small bowl of ink for him; I was 8 years old.

He created several of these paintings. The others must have been sold in one of his art shows, or given away, since this is the only one I’ve found as we’ve organized what he had stored.
