Forest Scenes

The two paintings here (“Solo” and “Forest Stroll”) are representative of a number of my father’s paintings that show the distinctive influence of one of the masters with whom he studied: Edgar Whitney. The painting below is by Edgar Whitney, and was prominently displayed in our home for many years. Whitney inscribed the back of painting “I am so happy that part of me will be in Byron’s home.” Dad’s style clearly emulates Whitney’s in these paintings.

Whitney was a very succesfful and influential watercolorist in his day. Some materials that he published were taken to be foundational.

Another of Byron’s paintings showing Whitney’s influence.

Dad accrued a collection of notes taken through the years of workshops he attended. This is of a workshop Edgar Whitney conducted in southern Louisiana in 1984, when Whitney was 92 years old.
