Byron produced a range of artworks that are copies of pieces by prominent artists—especially Winslow Homer. While his mother had had a couple of them framed and displayed on her walls, and he enjoyed one or two on his walls at home, they have never been displayed. They were for study or practice. This painting of the California Coast is a copy of a work by Milford Zorn, one of the watercolorists with whom he studied. The painting entitled “Chinese Village” is also very likely a copy. Below is a very small sampling from the 125 pieces labeled as copies in the database of his artwork. They show his predilection for scenes with water—and boats!
